Doe Deere’s Story From Singer To Lime Crime Entrepreneur

If you’re a lover of rainbows, unicorns and magical colors that you’d love to express yourself with, Lime Crime just might be the personal cosmetic brand you want. This brand was created by Doe Deere, a woman who brings out all the creativity in herself when putting out an idea for a product or showcasing the company online. Lime Crime has cosmetics that come in bright colors and glitters such as their makeup which has velvet and blush, and hair colors that Doe Deere is famous for using. Doe Deer has several marketing tactics that have helped her company become popular among young women. She’s done several online contests including “Must-Be-Pink!” and other social media contests that brought Lime Crime exposure, and she also is a big believer in “power of the crowd” marketing which means she listens to what customers have to say about their shopping and product experience and improves upon it.

Doe Deere first got some ideas for business when she was only a teen living in Russia. She moved to the US to go to college in the early 2000s, and upon arriving in New York aspired to become a singer in a band. She attended a fashion design school during the day and performed with her band during the evening. But it was her fashion design schooling that ultimately won out, and it was actually an eBay store account she setup to sell her designs that originally had the Lime Crime name. What she wanted to do to give her apparel even more appeal was to use more colorful makeup and hair colors to highlight it, and since she couldn’t find the kind of cosmetic kits she wanted, she decided to create her own. She soon realized when creating these new cosmetics designs that she had found a new art, so soon her fashion designs themselves began being replaced by her cosmetics.

Doe Deere’s first big cosmetics e-commerce sales began in 2008 when she started really pushing her makeup product line and added in the eye shadows and lipsticks. By 2009 after really putting the company name out on blogs and social media pages, Lime Crime started attracting even more customers and Doe Deere was able to start turning it into a big company. She moved to Los Angeles a couple years later and started bringing more team members to her company, and before long Lime Crime had official headquarters where it operates from today.

Doe Deere has a cosmetics lab that manages its product creations, and as Doe Deere has wanted the company to adhere to a vegan commitment, none of the products are tested or made from animal materials. Deere says she does try out every new product though before deciding to sell it because she wants Lime Crime products to be authentic for all customers. Lime Crime products are mostly bought online but several of them have made their way to department stores.
